gRPC Client Instrumentation with .NET APM Agent - Atatus Docs

Atatus .NET APM traces outbound gRPC client calls by subscribing to the diagnostics emitted by the gRPC client, creating a span for each call inside an active transaction and propagating distributed trace context to the called service.

Package installation

Add the Atatus gRPC client instrumentation package to the application.

dotnet add package Atatus.GrpcClient --version 3.2.2

If you are already using the Atatus.NetCoreAll package, gRPC client subscribers are wired automatically and no additional subscription code is required.

Register the diagnostics subscriber once during application startup so Atatus can create spans from the emitted activities.

What Atatus captures ?

A span for each outbound gRPC client call, including the service and method name and the response status.
Distributed trace context propagated on outgoing calls, so the called gRPC service appears in the same trace.
